Men’s Major Pennant Round 3 Report

Posted on: 21 February

This week we hosted Pymble GC at home after their convincing victory against our boys last week.

As a group, we were confident in playing our first home match of the season.

We were dealt a blow late in the week with Marty going down with an injury.

Hopefully, he can make a swift recovery from whatever it was that rendered him unable to swing a club, thanks for your support on course Marty, your presence is uplifting to the group and we look forward to you adding another GREEN TICK for us next week.

Speaking of GREEN TICKS !!

Pat Idquival (aka PANDA) finally ended his series of RED CROSS’ with his first GREEN TICK since ….. (not sure, it was that long ago !!)

A brilliant birdie on the 18th hole in front of his teammates, opponents and supporters for a 1 up Victory. Congratulations Panda, this was a huge point for the team which came at a critical time in the match.

Cam Walker had his first taste of Major Pennant competition playing reserve, this was a hard-fought match that ended in a draw, well done Cam and we hope to see you in the starting lineup later this season.

We had a real-life David vs Goliath battle at #7. Brendan Yap, taking on a 6’10 giant !! Yappy got a cramp in his neck when shaking hands on the 1st tee he was that tall. This was another display of how strong Yappy was to overcome his opponent mentally as he didn’t stand a chance physically. Another point for CHCC, well done Yappy.

Nick Heanes was forced up the order due to Marty’s mystery illness and he didn’t disappoint, seemingly in control all day, showing maturity and patience in another brilliant display, this match went back and forth most of the day but Nick proved why he is a major part of our 2024 campaign.

Justin Hatchett proves he is human, coming up against a strong opponent at #3, Hatchy and Coopar squared 3 holes with birdies, unfortunately, Coopar was too strong downing our Capt 2&1.

Our #2 match featuring self-proclaimed club legend Mark Thomson was something to behold. Mark never looked out of place after retiring 9 seasons ago, and his opponent didn’t give him many putts,  (we believe he was instructed not to give him ‘anything’) We were all extremely excited to see Mark back out there in the club colours competing as he only knows how, his caddy taking a lot of the credit in the post-match celebrations. A narrow victory 2&1 but an all-important point for CHCC.

No surprises at #1 Brad Fasher (aka FASH) records back-to-back victories with his Father, Bill again being forced to walk all 18 holes, Another strong performance from the Fashers.. Well done boys.

CHCC returning serve to Pymble 5 matches to 2.

Thank you to all our supporters, caddy’s and of course our Major Sponsors – Rate Money and Melrose Estate agents.

Next week we host Moore Park at home from 7 am.

Come along and witness some amazing golf.
