Match Report: Women’s Grade

Posted on: 2 March

At 7am, as we entered the pro shop, we were met by familiar Castle Hill Country Club faces, with John Nati and Mario Nasso making a welcome appearance to offer their best wishes for the day.

It was a very enjoyable start to the day, however the day will be remembered less for picture‑perfect golf and more for the sheer determination required simply to survive it. New South Wales Golf Club delivered its full coastal fury, unleashing torrential rain and gale‑force winds that turned the team match into a test of resilience as much as skill.

From the first tee, players were battling sideways rain and gusts strong enough to send balls veering off intended lines. Uniforms were nowhere to be seen, buried under layers of rain gear as everyone scrambled to stay vaguely dry.

Despite the chaos, and a broken umbrella, the golf produced its share of drama. The highlight—at least for the opposition—was a spectacular hole‑in‑one, a moment of brilliance that cut through the gloom. Even in the worst weather, great shots still shine.

Our team, though, refused to be rattled. Steady play, smart decisions in the wind, and a refusal to give in to the conditions kept the momentum on our side. Every par felt like a small victory.

After a grinding, weather‑beaten battle, our team emerged with a 3/2 win, a result that reflected not just skill but grit. It was the kind of victory that feels earned twice over—once on the scorecard, and once in the elements.

Results:

  • Farmaan – WIN 5/4
  • Ellie – WIN 1 up
  • Lina – LOSS 3/2
  • Sinae – WIN 7/5
  • Janine – LOSS 2 down

A sincere thank you to our caddies — Lorna, Vitaliy, Lina, Kelvin and David — whose support was invaluable from the very early morning start through the torrential rain and relentless winds. Their commitment in such challenging conditions made a genuine difference. Our appreciation also extends to Rob Gibbeson, Brad Fasher and Steve Gannon for their excellent guidance on navigating the New South course; in weather like that, their insight was especially valuable. Stay tuned — next week is our hosting week, and we look forward to welcoming everyone under (hopefully) far kinder skies.
