Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Golf Scholarship Program

Posted on: 16 February

This weekend the CHCC Junior Development Committee held a presentation and induction to welcome six new promising female golfers into the Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Golf Scholarship Program.

Grace, Ira, Annie, Emily, Lilian and Priscilla were selected from the Mygolf programs and other coaching initiatives held at the club by club coaching staff to participate in the program as they showed promise, commitment and enthusiasm to learn and improve their golf skills.

Launched in 2021, through the foresight and generosity of Foundation Director, Bonnie Boezeman AO, the AGF Junior Girls Scholarship Program aims to improve health outcomes and inclusion in golf for girls aged 9 to 16.

The program is designed to foster a deep love for golf by creating a strong bond between girls and their golf club/facility. By encouraging and supporting junior program participants to continue their golfing journey beyond the introductory phase and to obtain a handicap, this program seeks to reduce dropout rates of teenage girls in golf and improve long-term health outcomes.

These outcomes are achieved by providing scholarships, enabling girls aged 9 to 16 to receive coaching, junior membership for one year, and a Golf Australia (GA) handicap.

While participation in golf is increasing, women and girls are under-represented at just 20% of total participation.

The program has seen incredible success with already over 4,500 scholarships being granted. Notably, 82% of the recipients have retained their club memberships upon completing the program and 60% of the scholarships have been awarded to girls from regional areas.

Scholars can also join an alumni network, gaining access to special events, reciprocal playing rights, and stay connected with other girls in the program.

The vision for the program is to grant 10,000 scholarships by 2030 and level the playing field.

These lucky six Castle Hill junior members have their membership paid for by the club for the year, receive 24 one hour group coaching sessions at the club with PGA Coach David Ecob, have access to online learning and coaching sessions and receive an AGF members pack, including the yellow scholarship shirt which they all proudly wore for their group photo.

This is the 6th year CHCC has participated in the program with many of the 24 girls who graduated the program now of single figures and regulars on the timesheets.

Please congratulate Grace, Ira, Annie, Emily, Lilian and Priscilla on their scholarship, we hope you enjoy the next twelve months and can’t wait to hear about your improvements. Make sure you say hello and give them a wave when you see them around the club in their yellow shirts.
